Merry Christmas Berlin. Laildaw Energy group now owns This City. Congratulations to all.

jon edwards

Berlin owns Berlin. Merry Christmas to numerous caring people. This is and will be a city to be proud of.

V.

Proud of the belching stack? Twas but a fortnight ago twee twer all crying foul. How horrible that we had not seized the moment, how pitiful the pitty shall be. Did all the arguments aginst the plan mean nothing? "Dirty pants" they will say "filthy" to come into the new Century looking like that. Dusty and smelly. I will not be dancing with the pig. Circle around your pig. Bow down to the pig. Be proud. Make the best of the big pig downtowne, tis all you will get!

V.

Belchaa, belch, belch, belch, Santa came today! Oh thank you for the big filthy factory Santa, tis all we eva wanted. "Lovely" visitors will say and they roll up the windows and pass on their way.

Up their noses will go
as they did in past

Ching Ching says the Unions
As they're counting that cash

Bye bye go the new birds
Hello to the past...

V.

and of course Merry Merry Christmas.....

...proud of the big pig indeed....

Merry Christmas V. Proud to know the end result of what will come to be. Happy New year as well, and best of luck in Virginia. You deserve a fresh start and have a beautiful setting to begin again. Enjoy the water landscaping.

V.

its not over is the troubling part...

Timothy Gordon

Geez, look away for a couple of days and look what happens. May be an outing is in order, we could get Dr. Phil to sit in and help people to play nicely together.

V.

Laidlaw is not really your new master. However, Laidlaw will define what Berlin is for the next 100 years and I know you don't like those apples?

jon edwards

lol. Don't go away again Tim, you'll be caught off guard and know not what to believe. Suspense is much more than just a rumor. lol.

Jane Gordon

You know Jon there are so many thoughtful, witty and intelligent comments made to this blog, but let me tell you what is sad about this page, you and my husband are the only two bloggers who are not afraid to sign their real names to their comments.

Here is hoping Jon that you have a healthy, prosperous and wonderful 2009........and if you need a good property manager/real estate agent......Tim is available

Timothy Gordon

Now see, that is what happens when you walk away from the computer......

V.

I fear the unspoken word more than the spoken word. Ignorance. Would Laidlaw be anymore detrimental to Berlins future if she had no name. Such silly hangups, traditions, such entitlement! let us all take off our bullet proof vests and have a break for some tea....

The lourde of the Manour commands you to feed the machine. Your future now belongs to the machine, the beast. You will do the bidding of the beast. You want her name... Bow down and wait for her to exhale. Soon you will again feel her breath on your neck and your children will breathe her into their lungs and she will drag your equity into the gutter with her, fouling and crucifying. The name of the machine is what matters to you? No not today, today what matters is that you will bow down. Bow to the lourde of the manour and place your future at his doorstep. Bow, bow , bow.....

"Bow down, bow to the queen of slime, bow to the queen of putresence" I have considered sending the ex mayor three keys, the front door, the back door and the shed. After all, this town belongs to Union power, and f&*$%ck everyone else but Damn did he do right by his brothers...

V.

And of course, to all a good night.....

"I fear the unspoken word more than the spoken word. Ignorance."

Well put.

Thanks Jane, though I respect people for their interest in remaining anonymous. For some people, such as Rocky, they could not have started a blog without remaining anonymous, and if Rocky had not started this blog, I don't think Berlin would have awakened in the least bit.

I don't believe it is too late to save our north country way of life and I think this city really does care to determine its future and does have the right to control its destiny; the question is whether or not the city will exercise its right to control its destiny. The longer the city waits to express its desire the more difficult it will become to influence the direction in which the city moves forward. I strongly believe that the city hasn't believed in the Laidlaw purchase ever coming to fruition, and if it did, Laidlaw would not be the purchaser other than through a lease interest with huge obstacles to overcome, including the people of Berlin who do not want this plant in downtown Berlin. Many people including myself are in this city for the long haul and the need is there to protect it. If a purchase of the Burgess mill site happens for the proposed use of biomass, there will be a fight to stop that use and there will be a united force behind it as it doesn't make any sense for Berlin given the alternatives. This fight goes well beyond the Burgess mill site to the township of Success, and has a great deal to do with an area that has been raped by outside influences for decades because the area has been too naive or desperate to care for the very assets that can terminate the importance of the area upon their peril. There are now too many interested parties in the north country way of life for this fight not to occur if someone is trying to jeopardize the heart of the city with a biomass facility that could jeopardize that way of life and the Burgess mill site for biomass rivals that way of life. Berlin won't allow that to happen in my opinion.

Timothy Gordon

Jon, once again you have hit the point without knowing it.
One person will not make a difference, one voice will not be heard. Staying under the radar will not help anyone. For me, it is more important for the voices to be heard, and without coming forward, weight will not be given to their letters. These are serious times and people need leaders that are willing to put themselves out there, or, people that take the position that this is me, here I am, this is what I stand for, this is what I believe, will be respected for their position(s). Hiding behind a computer, and only posting here, will not do anything but allowing venting of frustrations, momentarily easing the boiling point, but in the long run, accomplish nothing.
Fact, one hundred million dollars to convert the old mill to biomass, if that is in fact the dollar amount, will not happen in this economy, no matter what initiatives are suggested by the State or Federal Government. When added to the mix the company that wants to do it, has never operated an operation that size, or any size, will doom it to failure before it starts, if this were not true, there would be activity there already.
Can they hold the property up, and create a lot of turmoil in the community, yes, but will they ever fire up and operate? No!
So, where are the meetings with NAD to position ourselves for the next step of this fiasco, building a bridge to NAD and to show by actions that the City is ready willing and able to step in where Laidlaw has failed. I have not seen that taking place, taking a wait and see attitude will really be the death of that property, can you say 18 hole golf course? It would do a lot for the citizens, add to the recreation initiative in one small step, and also give the City a revenue stream and employement opportunities. Not to mention the covering up of the Brownfield areas in a manor that would not only be functional but attractive as well, beats a parking lot!
But these are just the ramblings of one person, and shows that I like everyone else, has a bellybutton!

Rocky

Some very valid points being made here. A very wise person once told me that "you can't hold someone accountable unless you become responsible yourself". I believe that too many of us turn our responsibilities to others and then criticize "others" for our own failure to be responsible/involved. I hope that we may all find the strength to be and act more responsibly in 2009.

Timothy Gordon

Rocky,
Being held accountable is the cross that people bare when they choose to do more. You can not be willing to take the praise when things are truly going well, if you are not willing to take the knocks when things are not! Fair weather fans are not only for sporting events. I say define your use of "Responsible" and "Involved" , and for 2009, I wish the strength of digestion for the force feeding we will be given!

jon edwards

Or the strength to regurgitate what we don't want rather than digest it to begin with.

Timothy Gordon

YUCK!

Rocky

Responsible/involved as in calling your councilmen, going to meetings and speaking up publicly when issues require public opinions.

Timothy Gordon

Rock,
Calling my Council members? You got to be kidding me. Come on over, see the washing machine that has been tossed out by someone and sitting outside, still, for the last two/three months, Called repeatedly, still nothing done about it. I have been done this road, and nothing. I have more letters to the editor than anyone else I have ever seen in the papers, about issues, and that never helped. What glass globe do you live in anyways? The one thing that I have learned from this city, when issues rear their ugly heads, pray that they move, die, or go to jail, for that is the only hope that something will change!

jon edwards

Tim, Where the hell is this washing machine-I'll get it moved today.lol.

Timothy Gordon

no problem Jon, is is in the alley between Jolbert and Sessions, right behind the Grey triple Decker, while you are there, pick up the trash that is from the second floor tenant, there are a couple of bags of it, on the property next door to it, and since your in such a mood, go to the house on the corner of sessions and second, by the garage, there is a freezer that is also adding to the ambiance. But as I was told, you will be trespassing on private property if you try and remove it, and subject to arrest and prosecution. Go figure huh!
